Because of the malleable, rubbery texture of the "backing" that the adhesive is on, it removes easily and also adheres well (by pushing it in, it can contour to the shape of what it's adhered to, thereby forming a stronger bond). Also, because it's so flexible, when it peels off, it pulls the adhesive perpendicularly to the hold it previously had, so it doesn't leave a residue. The 3M stuff that is on a "foam" backing often leaves a residue. This stuff is great; I wish it were available locally and cheap!
